Discover the Olympic Thrill: The Flame of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Illuminates Lagrasse.
We were excited to hear that the Olympic Flame of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games would be making its way through the beautiful Corbieres region and the enchanting medieval village of Lagrasse on May 16, 2024.
With 10,000 bearers along the way, the Olympic Torch, designed by the French designer Mathieu Lehanneur, is inspired by three symbols of Paris: equality, water and reconciliation. Its champagne color will illuminate iconic French landmarks, culminating in the opening ceremony in Paris on July 26. This event will draw links between different eras, highlighting exceptional sites that contributed to France’s reputation and influence during each important period of its history.
The route, which will start in Olympia, Greece, will cross the Mediterranean and pass through a series of towns before shining a light on the opening ceremony, including Carcassonne, Castelnaudary, Limoux, Narbonne and, of course, picturesque Lagrasse. The village will host a special ceremony, marking the passing of the Olympic flame in a unique setting, with the ancient Abbey of Sainte Marie and its medieval streets as a backdrop.
With six stages scheduled from May 13 to 19, 2024, the events in Aude promise to be a true celebration of the Olympic spirit.
This is a unique moment for the residents of Lagrasse, and we are thrilled to be part of this chapter in Olympic history. We invite the local community, visitors and guests to join us in celebrating this special day, letting the Olympic Flame light up our hearts and inspire a passion for sport in our community.
